No matter where you are in your life journey, finding something you believe is lacking is always accessible. Maybe you don’t have the job, the body you want, the partner you wish to have, or the bank account balance you want. It can be tempting to let these things we perceive as lacking define us and determine our worthiness. The truth is, however, that we are enough just as we are – right here and right now. Here are three tips for reminding yourself of your inherent worthiness and living in the present moment.

How can I teach myself to be enough?

1. Acknowledge Your Feelings and Emotions

The first step is acknowledging how you feel without judgment. If you are feeling sad, angry, frustrated, or any other emotions, allow yourself to feel those emotions without attaching a negative story to them. Just for this moment, can you think about whatever you are feeling without letting it take over? Observe the emotion and then let it go.

2. Accept Yourself Unconditionally

The second step is accepting yourself just as you are in this moment – imperfections and all. We are human beings, and we all have flaws. That’s what makes us unique and special. Permit yourself not to be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes – learn from yours and move on.

3. Focus on What You Can Control

The third and final step is to focus on what you CAN control in this moment rather than what you can’t control. It’s easy to get bogged down by worrying about things out of our control, such as the weather, other people’s actions, or the past. Instead, focus on what IS in your control, such as your reaction to the situation, your breathing, or your attitude towards others.

When we can learn to be exactly as we are now, we open the door to happiness, peace, love, and joy. We no longer need anything outside of ourselves to complete us because we realize that we are whole just as we are. Try out these three tips the next time you find yourself feeling like you aren’t enough and see how they help shift your perspective back to one of self-love and acceptance.
